New Moon in Taurus: May 18 @ 12:13am EST
Feelings are highlighted with Venus, the ruling planet of Taurus, in Cancer and the mind is highly active and potentially a bit confused with Mercury stationary retrograde in Gemini. This lunation is calling for conscious presence and astute attention to what we are sensing. Clear thinking is supportive to translate what we are feeling and with Gemini’s focus generally being scattered it requires some extra effort. The energy of this cycle may find us seeking to get our needs met or to meet our own needs of self-sufficiency and self-reliance in order for us to embody and honor our sense of self-worth.
Taurus is an earthy sign and it knows what feels good and what doesn’t. Being in our bodies and connecting to the vibration of the earth is a necessary part of our journey. And, this means listening – not to what the mind is saying, but to what you are sensing and how your body is reacting – allowing us access to the wisdom of the body. Listening is a profound yogic practice that goes beyond hearing; it’s about attuning to nature, yourself, and life.
The heart or anahata chakra is the bridge between the upper and lower worlds and when we meet the earth through our awakened senses we come alive with vibrance, compassion, and love. Often when we are in our emotions we think we are feeling, however, emotions cloud the heart and block our abiltiy to truly listen. Feeling through and going beyond our emotions is necessary in order to attune to inner wisdom and understanding. It is from this place of practical wisdom and beingness that we are able to honor oursleves in harmony with the needs of others.
Taking time for silence, the yogic practice of Mouna, is an opportunity to go within. Each New Moon is a wonderful time to reflect inward to see what is shadowing our ability to be in joy. This inward reflection expands self-awareness and our capacity to be consciously present on this wild wonderful earth.
