NEW MOON in CAPRICORN: Jan 9, 2016 @ 8:30pm EST at 19 degrees

Saturday’s new moon was a very personal lunation for me as I celebrated the marriage of my cherished sister and her dear love on their wedding day. Beginning the new year surrounded by the roots of my family amidst beauty and celebration is a telling clue as to what I most value and also what foundations support me (or do not) as I prepare the year’s journey. You see, I rarely speak personally in my posts, and yet, each post is excrutiatingly personal (we are afterall speaking of the moon).

This lunation also falls on my beloved’s birthday, along with two other dear friends. I am celebrating them while honoring the Capricorn gifts they illuminate in me. We truly do attract that which we are, need, and long for in our lives. There is a Spanish saying: “Tell me who you’re with and I’ll tell you who you are”. And, this cycle is giving us an opportunity to look at what forms us, so we can prepare to reform ourselves from our roots, our core. Capricorns are innately sturdy, solid, and often serious. They don’t give up easily and tend to stay in it for the long haul.

With the moon/Sun conjunct Pluto it is a month of diving deep into the depths of ourselves to transform what isn’t aligned and reform according to our innermost substance and value. Pluto is relentless in its passion to break things down and then rise from the ashes. Pluto in Capricorn is determined reform our structures. We do this by keeping what is sustainable and letting go of that which is not.

We begin the new year and this cycle with a Mercury retrograde period, so chances are we are questioning what we are ready to commit to and abide by. Mercury is retrograding through Capricorn and so our mind may be occupied with what and whom gives us support, stability, and a sense of structure. We want to get on track with what we most value and revere. Remembering to honor ourselves as our greatest resource…all of where we come from, all of which has brought us here, and all of that is required to take us where we will go.

What’s at our core is who we are. We utilize the strength and endurance of our lineage and past, and we ask: From where did I come and why? What ground do I stand on? What are my resources? What is staying for the long haul?  And, to where do I go and how?

Capricorn represents our root (muladhara chakra) or that which supports us, our basic needs. These roots must grow deep, sturdy and strong in order to regenerate and renew year after year, generation after generation.  Growth is not survival of the fittest but rather an understanding of ones nature and living in alignment with that nature to cultivate the greatest reform through time. In yoga it is said “know the seed something and you know its fruit.” Capricorn creates the roots from the seed of our being. We look to our roots to remember and as we understand and strengthen these roots we prepare ourselves for greater reform. We take a look back to discover new lands ahead – we remember what is beneath us in order to grow above.

“Discovery consists not in seeking new lands but in seeing with new eyes.” ~ Marcel Proust

Saturn the ruling planet of Capricorn is in the sign of Sagittarius conjunct Venus. A good placement for the sober planet to get a blast of expansive love blended with greater commitment; magnetizing our resources and soul vision. The first new moon of the year is here to anchor us into the deepest roots of our being to reform and revive our greatest dreams and soul longings.

The planet Uranus and Jupiter are also strong forces in the cosmic play this month. The moon/Sun are charging up the Uranus/Pluto square creating an inner revolution of rooted reform. With a trine to Jupiter in Virgo we get back to the day to day basics with practicality and devoted directness.

COSMIC BLESSING
May the abiding roots of our being sink deeper… linking us to the network of wisdom grounded beneath us, as we let go and let life emerge. At one in body, mind and spirit. At one in thought, word and action. At one with life.
